Today, I found myself wondering, what would be the English equivalent of “絶妙(perfectly balanced)” or “微妙” (subtle)?
I feel like English tends to have more straightforward expressions compared to Japanese, and there’s a hesitation to make ambiguous statements.
As a result, when translating Japanese or trying to convey a uniquely Japanese expression, I often find myself thinking, “Hmm, how do I express this nuance?
日本語訳：
今日ふと思ったのが、「絶妙」「微妙」て英語でなんていうんだろうということ。日本語に比べて、英語って白黒はっきりした言い方が多い気がしていて、あんまり曖昧な発言をしないように思う。その分、日本語を直訳する時とか、日本人らしい言い回しをしたい時とかに、「ん？」てなることがよくあるんだよな。
